TIPS ON THE SETTING UP OF AN ACCREDITATION SCHEME AND ON THE USE OF THE MODEL SCHEMES

If you have not done so already join the National Accreditation Network. Its purpose is to help you.

Obtain copies of the two excellent Government guidance documents on how to develop and operate accreditation schemes. These are entitled:

1. Developing a voluntary accreditation scheme for private landlords – A guide to good practice
    ISBN 185112 478 0

2. Voluntary Accreditation for Private Landlords
    ISBN 85112 479 9

Copies of both reports are available from

Obtain a copy of the ANUK National Accreditation Directory, which contains details of many scheme operators around the UK. Make contact with other scheme operators and obtain scheme information packs from them. You will learn much by looking at other schemes.

Carefully consider the ANUK model schemes and amend them to suit your local circumstances. Consideration of other schemes will give you further ideas.

Follow the procedure below on how to set up an accreditation scheme. This procedure has been adapted from the Government’s guidance as referred to above.
